Parson Chair slipcovers

I have said this before, but I really enjoy meeting new people.  This is my new client's parson chair.  She said it has sat in her garage for over 5 years and she's decided it's  time to move it into the house.
It is wearing a golden hue with japanese characters and insects.  Cool combination, but not for my client's taste.  She brought me a very lovely fabric and we went to work.

BEFORE

Love the curves on this chair.  Very elegant and sophisticated.

AFTER

This print made me think of havest time and the warmth of being surrounded by friends and family.

Hide-A-Bed Slipcover

I am learning that you can slipcover just about anything and make it your own.
My client has a hide-a-bed that has seen better days.
She didn't want to have to remove the slipcover every time someone slept on the hide-a-bed.

BEFORE

How do you slipcover a hide-a-bed?

I wish I could take the credit for this genius idea, but I can't.  I have a  friend that has been my mentor and has helped me in my business venture.
Here is a hint!! Zippers

Double zippers that open the decking of the couch.

This client was a lot of fun.  She has her own since of style.  Now her furniture is exactly how she wants it and it's functional.

Dropcloth SuperStar!!

My client wanted an updated look to her "tired" couch.

BEFORE

We chose to make her slipcover with painter's drop cloth.  It is an economical way to get a very custom look.  Ya know, someting you would see in a magazine and have to pay thousands of dollars to achieve.  I want to say that we puchased about $70-$90 work of  drop cloth. This amount covered the sofa and the ottoman.

HERE IS THE AFTER

Yes, it is the same living room!!! What a difference it makes.  Beautiful.

I also added a band around the back cushions.  What this means is giving it two rows of piping, instead of a single row. This really can transform a look.  I filled it with lots of foam and dacron.  Now the cushions "stand up" and are very supportive.

I really enjoyed getting to know this gal.  I look forward to working with her again or simply getting to see her again.  Any reason would do.

The highlight of  my day:

My client said to me , "Amy, look at what you created!".  I felt like a gold star was on my forehead.  No matter how old I get, a compliment is a wonderful thing.

Double your pleasure, double your fun

Yea,  I'm still blogging, but it has been awhile.  I will have many projects done in the coming weeks, so make sure to check back.  Something kind of fun, too.  I am booked until the new year!!! Holy Smokes!!
I covered these chairs and also made some custom pillows.  I love meeting new clients.  This gal was a real sweetheart and I hope to do more business with her soon.
Enjoy!!

Oh, by the way~!!~
I LOVE A GOOD SLIPCOVER

Just for ME

I've had a stressful week.  People needing me "yesterday", when I only have today to give.  I've been fighting a cold, but being a mother , wife ( and semi-professional seamstress) never stops.  This chair was my great grandfathers and a few days ago I just decided to make it mine!! It was a wonderful experience to do something just for me.  I have to admit, my favorite part of this picture is my little boy patiently waiting for me to open his graham crackers and watch him ride his bike.  So this is a tribute to all the ladies out there who have more to do than time allows.  Stop and do a little for yourself and then get back to work!!  I find that no matter what you do, the day still ends and the list just gets longer.  Enjoy a bit of it for yourself and keep smiling.

Changing it up!!

A chair doesn't have to be a dumpster find to benefit from a slipcover.  This client just wanted different decor in her home.

BEFORE
Tufted leather parson chair-very masculine and formal

My client found some lovely  fabrics and came up with a style of her own.  I added some batting to the slipcover to hide the tufting.

AFTER
Elegant and soft.

New Office-New Chair

My client brought this chair to me hoping we could "save" it.  It had been left at the home they purchased.  It had potential to be very comfy, but it was run down and dirty.  NO PROBLEM!!! The possibilities were endless.  We decided to cut off the back cushion and to slip cover the whole thing.

BEFORE

This is a suprise present for her husband's office. What a great wife!!  I hope he is thrilled with his new office chair.   Here is the After.

AFTER-It looks AWESOME!!

Updating a wingback

My client bought this sturdy wingback at a yard sale for $10!! The arms were ruffed up and she wasn't happy with the finish on the legs.

BEFORE

I added a cute gathered cushion and a little flirty skirt.  I also stained the legs a dark walnut.  Now the chair is very elegant and fits in nicely with her decor.

Family furniture updated

We all have furniture that is passed down from generation to generation.  It reminds us of our grandpa or grandma.  We like the chair, but we don't like the look. My client decided to "upgrade" her family hand-me-down.

Started with a little surgery.  Painted the legs a distressed blue and cut off the cushion.

Teasing you with pleats and a little bit of leg.

AFTER

We replaced the old tired cushion with a cushion insert.  THEY ARE AMAZING!!! Now the cushion is removeable and you can wash it when it gets dirty.  The slipcover is also washable.  We all want a stylin' house, but as long as we've got kids around, we've got to make it washable.

Box Pleat Wingback

This chair was a real design challenge, but I am thankful for the chance to stretch.  My client loved the result!!

BEFORE -outdated, heavy and needing some attention

An overstuffed cushion insert was added to refresh the piece.

One more chair saved!!!

My client got this chair for free many many many years ago.  She was ready to give it up, but I'm glad she changed her mind.  It had major problems.  When I went to sit in it,  my rear-end hit the concrete.  This chair needed a complete over haul.  Springs, webbing, cotton, batting, foam, etc.  So I gave her the works.

BEFORE-Filthy and needing some love

My favorite part of this job is seeing the end result.  Now I hope this chair will be a family favorite.

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!!

I love rescuing furniture that has potential.  This piece had pretty lines.  I thought it could be really elegant with a little help.

BEFORE-

White can make a large piece dainty and less imposing in a room.

AFTER- I used old fencing for the back panel.

Now she's full of my "pretties" and I store my Bosch and crock pot underneath when I'm not using them.  I have a very small kitchen, so counter space is limited.

Full of all of my favorite things.

A dresser that was in pieces.
I bought this for pennies because it was in seperate parts.  It had tons of damage and was destined to be painted.  I chose a distressed blue and used rope for handles.  I think I like it.

BEFORE-still working on making the bottom drawer fit

Mellow Yellow

I loved the lines on this chair, but I was a little nervous on how it might turn out.
Luckily,  I LOVE IT!!!

BEFORE
Sturdy, but lacking

I can't resist a little bit of  gathering, bunching, pleating. Whatever you call it, I can't RESIST it.

AFTER
Soft yellow with distressed wood accents

This is what I love about solid colors.  You can mix and match your accessories.

Pretty in Pink Reveal

I loved this chair from the moment I saw her at a yard sale.  She is in meticulous condition! No pets, no smoke and the upholstery is untouched.  I was waiting for inspiration on how to "dress" her, and then it came to me.

BEFORE

She deserved to keep a little bit of leg showing. Hey, if you've got them, flaunt them.

And here she is all dressed up. Doesn't she look comfy?  She is going to a local decor shop to promote my business.  Everyone in blogville, wish me luck!!

AFTER

p.s.  I know I need to work on my photography skills, but my 3 year old is running around, half naked, and I need to catch him and put him in the tub!!!

I've got upholstery fever!!!

I love reupholstering and slipcovering.  I think I have found my niche ladies!! You will see painted projects now and then, but I find that my true love is slipcovering and upholstering those unique pieces.

This chair was stuffed with straw!! Doesn't that mean it's really really old?
I pulled off the original upholstery, gave it some new filling and transformed it to today's style.

These guys are for my basement family room.  I just slapped some paint on them and called them mine.  I do love their shape and I try real hard not to get rid of all the good stuff.  Sometimes my husband thinks my goal is to empty the house.  Crazy thought, but he does have a point.  Anyway, these two are staying with us.
